No disrespect to the new Miss America. It's refreshing to think how far we've come from the momento mori culture of our distant past. We need no longer remember that we will die; we need no longer remember that we age. As it says in Matthew 6, we can now be transformed into animated waxen images of ourselves that "smile not, neither do they blink." And yet, "even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."
